What is this new “Office Siren Glasses” trend that everyone is talking about?

It's undeniable, one of the major fashion trends of this fall-winter 23/24 is none other than the " office siren " or "office siren" in French (yes, it's immediately a little less pretty). A trend that has invaded the networks and where glasses play a key role. On this occasion, Seconde Vue deciphers for you this new must-have fashion that everyone is talking about!

The Office Mermaid Aesthetic

In a few words, the office siren is the woman from the 90s-2000s who works in an office in the era of super models (Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell etc.). She is mysterious, dark and sexy at the same time. And as the TikToker @asias.jpg rightly described, we find her silhouette in the fashion archives of brands such as Calvin Klein, Dolce & Gabbana and Ralph Lauren.

The Siren Office is also sublimely embodied by top model Gisele Bundchen in the iconic film "The Devil Wears Prada" released in 2006. She has also been embodied by the modern-day Miu-Miu woman for several seasons now.

Recently, Chinese brand Mark Gong unveiled a collection heavily inspired by this film and this aesthetic. Its latest SS24 campaign takes place in an office located at the top of a building, while the silhouettes of its latest collection are, for their part, a direct homage to the film The Devil Wears Prada.

It includes gray pencil skirts, white shirts, little black cardigans, sweaters tied on the shoulders and even badges around the neck or " to go coffee cups " in the hands of the models. And of course, to further emphasize this Office Siren Girl aesthetic: all the models wear glasses.

What does a modern siren office look like?

The Office Siren has a relatively minimalist and often monochrome clothing style, but will make a point of honoring every little fashion detail that immediately enhances a silhouette. For example, she will wear a turtleneck but will tuck her hair into her collar and prefers to wear very high socks rather than tights, because it's much more chic and sexy, come on!

For accessories, she likes them big and rather ostentatious. It can be gold, silver or even wood, it doesn't matter. What she likes above all are these cuff bracelets that will immediately add a spicy touch to a simple look, charm necklaces or even big earrings with organic shapes.

For her glasses, she likes them thin and rectangular, which gives her the serious look of a real girl boss. In order to best show off her glasses, she wears very little makeup. Her eyes will be barely made up, but be careful, her eyebrows and complexion will be perfectly worked. As for her mouth, it can be lightly colored but especially glossy!

But what does this trend mean?

Since the 2010s, we have seen increasingly casual office attire. A trend that has only been accelerated by the global pandemic of 2020, which has encouraged us to telework as much as possible. And apart from a few office professions that require a very specific dress code (suit, tie, tailor), a large majority of people go to work as if they were meeting friends for brunch.

Generation Z has never experienced the corporate culture that our parents knew. And today, many companies are (re)requiring more presenteeism than in the last four years. This is partly why millennials have taken advantage of the TikTok network to give their fashion advice on how to maintain a sense of style while looking professional.

Finally, this new aesthetic of the Office Siren could be seen as a separate part of the Quiet Luxury trend that we mentioned in a previous article. Here, we tend to put our sequin dresses away in our closets and bring out our parents' cashmere sweaters!

Which stars and who have adopted this trend?

Recently, Kim Kardashian perfectly embodied the Office Siren in a latest SKIMS video campaign. First of all, the decor which is none other than an office with a computer, as well as its neutral and monochrome tones: beige and gray. But also her haircut which immediately recalls that of Andy Sachs played by Anne Hathaway in The Devil Wears Prada, as well as her relatively sober makeup. And of course the essential small vintage rectangular glasses adorned on the tip of her nose!

Finally, recently model and it-girl Bella Hadid has been spotted several times on the streets of New York with a slightly more discreet style, reminiscent of 90s icon Carolyn Bessette. Like the Office Siren , Bella sports monochrome outfits, slicked-back hair and vintage rectangular glasses in all of these looks.
