Alain Mikli, a true genius of glasses!

A true star of eyewear during the 90s, Alain Mikli is undoubtedly one of the creators who revolutionized the world of optics. He launched his house in 1978 at just 23 years old and has continued to reinvent eyewear in all its forms ever since. Although he sold his House thirty-five years after his acquisition, he is still enjoying real success today and has just been appointed artistic director of Sol-Amor, an emblematic brand of the 1950s.

Alain Mikli, the avant-garde of the world of optics

His unique and mocking advertisements have left their mark because Alain Mikli is one of the few who has managed to make glasses an everyday object that is both fun and precious!

Indeed, for almost fifty years now, Mr. Mikli has been cheerfully shaking up the codes of eyewear and oscillating between audacity and classicism when he designs his collections. A very particular balance that he is the only one to master brilliantly! What's more, when developing each of his collections, he likes to point out that he has "injected the technical comfort possible today."

Like a true contemporary artist, Alain Mikli draws inspiration from what surrounds him, from technological advances and from works of all kinds. We sometimes find designs that seem to have been inspired by Dali's paintings or sometimes by the Batman movie...

His many collaborations, each more successful than the last!

Unquestionably considered THE star of eyewear during the 90s, Alain Mikli has surrounded himself with the biggest names in fashion! From Chantal Thomass to Claude Montana, Thierry Mugler and Jean-Paul Gaultier, they have fun breaking the codes of eyewear to better reinvent them with offbeat creations that are sometimes on the verge of provocation! And we love it...

“Dressing the gaze is the most beautiful work in the world. The eyes are the door to the soul and I have the chance, by excuse, to look people in the eye. I enjoy guessing what is hidden behind it. It is anchored in me,” he confided to Vogue.

In a glance, Alain Mikli has the gift to succeed in identifying a personality... A reading that has always driven the designer. His motto? An accessory is designed to be seen! And for good reason, the expression of style is nothing other than the extension of oneself and the glasses are not only an object with medical virtues, but indeed an object that allows us to express ourselves, to tell something about ourselves... Or not, for that matter! It can also be a mask or an object that allows us to put a barrier between ourselves and the world...

Alain Mikli or the vision of the bezel as a piece of jewelry in its own right

If Alain Mikli has always considered the telescope as an object  design, he sometimes goes so far as to create real jewels. This is demonstrated by his collaboration "Glam Couture" with Swarovski, where he unveils frames set with Swarovski crystals or diamonds encrusted in acetate. A real technical feat in the field of optics!

And it seems that nothing can stop him since he announced in 2009 that he was teaming up with the brilliant jewelry designer Delfina Delettrez, who wanted to develop her first jewelry collection with him! Conquered by her talent and creativity, together they designed a collaboration worthy of a high jewelry collection.

In this limited series, the branches are transformed into chains, sometimes decorated with turtles, ladybugs, fish or even rhinestone skulls. A surprising and daring result that has conquered the entire fashion world!

Our selection Alain Mikli at Seconde Vue

At Seconde Vue, we particularly like the unique and comfortable designs of the French designer! From the small rectangular glasses in the spirit of 2000, to the aviatioor or the more classic square shape, Mikli knows how to speak to everyone! What do all his frames have in common? His particularly worked acetates, both inside and outside of these frames, as well as his flex temples, which ensure comfort for all head and nose shapes!

In store, we also have a “nose mask” frame  from a limited edition of 500 copies dating from the end of the 80s. It is, without a doubt, the most tried pair in the store! It is as disconcerting as it is amusing with its unusual design, which sometimes seems to be inspired by Batman!
