How to properly maintain your vintage glasses

Yes, wearing vintage glasses is good, but knowing how to take care of them is better, even essential! Especially when our glasses are vintage, because they are often rare and damaged parts can sometimes be complicated to change. Especially since at Seconde Vue, being vintage fans, we have really been able to prove that when you take care of your things they last over time.

But then, how do we properly maintain our vintage glasses?

Handle your vintage glasses with care

First tip: do not place your glasses on your face, this risks scratching the lenses of your vintage frame. Therefore, once removed, you must place them on the previously folded branches or store them in their case in order to protect them.

Second rule: have a case or suitable protection to accommodate your vintage glasses. This will protect them from a possible shock but above all preserve them from dust. If you do not like rigid cases that are too bulky, you can turn to semi-rigid pouches for example.

Finally, avoid leaving your vintage glasses near a heat source, radiator, fireplace... Because, yes, heat can soften the acetate and your pair of vintage glasses can therefore become deformed. Heat can also have an effect on your lenses and they can deteriorate.

A simple gesture: cleaning your vintage glasses

Clean your lenses with a suitable cloth, and we insist on "suitable". Because too often, we are tempted to clean our lenses with our sweater or our t-shirt, but an unsuitable cloth can scratch your lenses. At Seconde Vue, we provide with your vintage frame a case and a microfiber adapted for the best possible care.

You can also use sprays suitable for cleaning lenses; some opticians sell them in a cleaning kit.

We repeat (but it is important) never clean your glasses with an unsuitable fabric such as paper towels, rags, paper handkerchiefs. Household products should also be avoided! You risk scratching your glasses, discoloring them, ...
