Yellow glasses: the big trend this winter!

Very much in vogue since the 70s, glasses with yellow lenses are making a comeback on the streets. While these frames instantly add a retro touch to any outfit, they also have significant therapeutic benefits.
And at Seconde Vue, we particularly appreciate these glasses, which we consider to be both pleasant and stylish... We then asked ourselves the question: why and how are yellow glasses an essential part of our wardrobe?

The therapeutic aspect of the yellow tint

Although sometimes the choice of a lens is above all a stylistic choice, each tint has its own characteristics and improves our visibility in a very specific way. Indeed, few of us know it, but yellow lenses are above all a way of refining our vision by improving contrasts despite low light; they therefore improve our visibility.

What's more, the yellow tint is also known to enhance colors by making our surroundings brighter. This is why, according to several studies, these characteristics can help put us in a better mood in gloomy weather, among other things.

Yellow glasses, promise of better visibility

In foggy, rainy or night driving, yellow lenses are highly recommended and help to sharpen your vision. More generally, this tint is very useful when the light is low.

Indeed, still thanks to the contrasts of this tint, glasses with yellow lenses allow you to better spot obstacles in unpredictable weather as well as a better understanding of the road. Finally, yellow lenses also help to reduce the impact of glare on our retina. An advantage  very valuable because depending on the speed adopted the glare is not the same and this tint helps protect against potential dangers.

It is for all these reasons that golfers, cyclists, runners, skiers and other sportsmen adopt these lenses; they allow to increase contrasts and offer sensations of depth to sportsmen.

Yellow tint, a solution against blue light

We told you about it a while ago: screens, like computers, tablets or smartphones, emit a blue light that is particularly harmful to our retinas. And when our eyes are exposed to this type of UV too often without being protected, our vision can be significantly impacted. In addition, if it is received in too great a quantity, this light is likely to generate age-related macular degeneration as well as other disorders such as irritation, headaches, eye fatigue or even sleep disorders...

And if special anti-blue light glasses exist, yellow glasses are also recommended to reduce the effects of blue light. And for good reason; thanks to their filtering role, yellow glasses can significantly reduce blue light and thus protect our eyes much better. Beyond the style effect, yellow glasses are therefore also very popular for people who are subject to working a lot in front of screens, such as "gamers".

Indeed, these lenses allow to accentuate the rendering of precision by adding a touch of contrast to the colors, while protecting the retina of the players. This is why this tint is highly appreciated by video game players, who enjoy the gaming experience even more.

Who popularized yellow glasses?

Several actors have participated in the hype of this color. We immediately think of Bono who sported a sports frame with yellow lenses during (almost) all of U2's concerts, but also of Johnny Depp who nonchalantly wore them on a pilot frame in the film "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" by Terry Gilliam, released in 1998. Finally, a little less "sexy" but just as iconic; Michou, our national "star", never took them off either!

In the 2000s, tinted glasses were definitely in fashion. Britney Spears, Beyonce, Paris Hilton, Anastasia and Nicole Ritchie... They all succumbed to the yellow glass trend.

More recently, model Bella Haddid sported a pair of chunky, yellow-lensed Michael Kors frames. Louis Vuitton creative director Pharell Williams also wore a pair of black acetate frames with yellow lenses at Paris Fashion Week in October. In short, almost every fashion-conscious star has adopted a pair of yellow-lensed frames!

Our vintage selection at Seconde Vue

We're not telling you anything new: at Seconde Vue we are passionate about vintage fashion. In addition to hunting down all our frames, after restoring them we also change each lens to give a second life and a new style to our frames. And the orange/yellow tint is undoubtedly one of our signatures!

Indeed, not only do they allow you to brave the grayness with a smile, but the yellow tints bring a vintage look that we particularly like. We have associated them with many frames such as large Colani, Thierry Mugler or Rosenstock and sometimes on smaller models such as Boz or Port Tanger. Because the rule of yellow lenses is that there are none! All frames are perfectly suited to this tint depending on the desired effect.

At Seconde Vue; compose your glasses as you wish

The little extra at Seconde Vue is that you are completely free to choose the frame of your dreams but also the tint you want. And this, even if we have mounted the glasses differently at first because we offer you the possibility of "composing" your glasses, in order to best support you in your desires and your needs.

So what are you waiting for? We are waiting for you now in our boutique at 15 rue Commines Paris 3 to create your dream pair, which you can wear day and night. And that alone is a big plus, right?
