Vintage glasses: sunglasses and optical glasses, we tell you why we love them.

We all know that vintage has been coming back into fashion for several years. Whether from an ecological point of view or because of their superior quality, we are increasingly buying second-hand parts.

But why are vintage sunglasses so beloved?

The superior quality of the materials of vintage glasses

The quality of vintage glasses from the 70s, 80s, 90s was something else! In fact, the manufacturing of the time was more complex, longer. For example, the frames of these years are made of cellulose acetate, a material that mixes cotton linters and wood pulp through chemical action. This acetate took time to be dried, which made it very resistant.

Another material commonly used to make glasses in those years: the laminated gold double. An ultra-resistant material, which today is practically no longer used, because it is much too expensive.

The level of detail of vintage glasses

Another reason why we love vintage glasses? The details! Yes, some of the glasses from the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s are full of little details that make all the difference! For example, we think of Thierry Mugler frames and the details of the label or the star. At the time, it was very important for designers to differentiate their creations through certain details, especially brand emblems.

If you read our last article on “vintage glasses through the years” You know that every era is marked by a new fashion for sunglasses.

Since the 60s, we have found different types of flagship frames: pilot glasses, steel frames, oversized glasses, mini glasses, colored glasses or even round glasses like John Lennon.

It is its iconic shapes that vintage lovers seek.

The rarity of vintage products

Finally, the particularity of vintage is the rarity of the pieces. When you get a pair of vintage glasses you are sure that not everyone will have the same!

It is for all these reasons that Seconde Vue was born. We offer pairs of vintage glasses that combine all these particularities: the quality of the materials, designs of the time with sometimes meticulous details, rare and most often unique products.
