"Tenniscore", the new trend of this summer to follow closely

For fashion aficionados, it must not have escaped your notice: the "tennis core" trend is everywhere! Could it be Zendaya and her two companions Mike Faist and Josh O'Connor who participated in its rise? Most certainly.… But not only! Indeed, it would seem that this new sporting breath within fashion arrives at the dawn of the Paris Olympic Games, and the latest Vogue World show underlines our words. Would fashion have wanted more moving silhouettes for this occasion? We dissect all that for you!

#tennisgirl, the hashtag that is invading social networks!

These days, social media is the main source of new trends to come. And right now, it seems that the pleated miniskirt and the short-sleeved polo shirt are the uniform to have, whether in France, the United States, England or Spain! This is also evidenced by the hashtag #tennisgirls, which has an incredible 950 million views on social media. Yes, just that!

For the record, as early as 1920, tennis player Suzanne Lenglen made her mark on the tennis world with her renowned technique, of course, but also (and above all) thanks to her very daring outfits for the time. And it was none other than French designer Jean Patou who designed a pleated silk model at knee height that allowed her to move as she wished. A first for the time! And it was no great surprise that Jean Patou subsequently brought about a new era by democratizing sportswear in couture and thus inspiring many other French Houses, like Chanel.

The release of the film Challengers confirms the great comeback of “tennis core”

Released on April 24, Luca Guadagnino's film Challengers with Zendaya as the main character, accompanied by actors Mike Faist and Josh O'Connor, is turning heads. A synopsis that tells the story of Tashi Duncan, a young tennis prodigy who finds herself in a love triangle, with two other racket enthusiasts. Beyond this love story,  There is also a cutting-edge styling that makes anyone want to practice their forehands and backhands.

A craze that is ultimately surprising since it is none other than the designer Jonathan Anderson, behind the Loewe brand, who signs all the looks of the film. Undeniably one of the darlings of fashion for several years, he never ceases to freak out the Fashion Weeks with parades more avant-garde than the last.

What's more, beyond the film, the actress has multiplied the winks throughout the promotion of the film. With, of course, multiple pleated mini dresses signed Loewe accompanied by her famous shoes which hold, as heels, tennis balls! A sportswear and retro aesthetic which is reminiscent of the AD of the Californian label Sporty&Rich which makes it its very essence!

A trend that has been making a timid comeback for several years now

While this new trend has recently emerged on the streets, it seems that different designers have been using it for several seasons already. Indeed, in 2022, French designer Jacquemus offered backless dresses, pleated mini skirts and sports bras for his collaboration with Nike. A collaboration repeated a few days ago, notably featuring tennis player Serena Williams.

Muccia Prada (also the artistic director of Miu-Miu), for her part, has been relaunching pleated micro-micro skirts and (ultra) crop-top polo shirts for several seasons now. Silhouettes that have been driving stars, the web and the fashion world crazy for some time now!

Without forgetting Lacoste of course, which has made tennis the very essence of its brand since its creation. With a last fashion show that took place on tennis courts!

A vintage and timeless silhouette

We don't need to tell you anything: fashion is just a constant renewal. And while the "tennis girl" has become the must-have silhouette of the season, she has been around for almost a hundred years now! The accessories are certainly evolving, but the basics remain the same.

And what better way to update an outdated outfit than to accessorize it? That's why we've selected several sunglasses for you ranging from the 70s to the 2010s to add a little pop touch to your outfits!

Our vintage glasses from the new tennis girl

Courrèges, Jean-François Rey, Renoma, Silhouette or even Jean-François Rey, Seconde Vue has prepared an eclectic, colorful selection, obviously vintage but in tune with the times! And our advice for optimal comfort: choose frames without nose pads, that is to say, acetate.

For a retro-futuristic look, adopt the Renoma. An acetate structure and a metal front! A unique and bold design.
